I listen to other people’s ideas and feelings. I try to see things from their viewpoints. I listen to others without interrupting. I am confident in voicing my ideas. I look people in the eyes when talking.
7 Habits for Families
This habit requires a lot of self-control, particularly for harried people, because it’s hard to slow down long enough to consider another person’s perspective. Covey teaches us that with people and relationships, slow is fast and fast is slow and Seek First to Understand then to be Understood allows us to practice this concept. Habit #5 is the habit of listening with empathy. The next time a problem arises in your family, before talking and making your point known; listen-TRULY listen to that other person. You will be amazed at the results.
